It took just two words and a handful of seconds for Brooks Koepka to summarize the lengthy final round of the 2023 Masters on Sunday.
When speaking to reporters following his second-place finish to Jon Rahm, Koepka was asked about the pace of play over the course of the afternoon, to which the LIV Golf star, 32, torched the speed of the group in front of them.
“Yeah, the group in front of us was brutally slow. Jon went to the bathroom like seven times during the round, and we were still waiting,” Koepka said.
Patrick Cantlay and Norway’s Viktor Hovland were in said group.
Though the slow pace clearly irked Koepka, some Twitter sleuths speculated if Cantlay’s speed annoyed Hovland, 25, too.
In fact, one Masters fan alleged Hovland tried to send his playing partner a message by hitting the ball as Cantlay, 31, continued to make his way up the course.
Hovland finished tied for seventh on Sunday with a 6-under, while Cantlay ended the tournament with a 3-under and tied for 14th.
Rahm, 28, and Koepka teed off at Augusta National at 2:33 p.m. and wrapped up around five hours later.
Koepka, who held the lead for most of the tournament, finished at 8-under and tied for second place with Phil Mickelson.
Rahm went on to win the first Masters of his career with a 12-under.
Sunday’s victory marked the Spaniard’s second major championship following his U.S. Open win in 2021.
Despite the disappointing finish for Koepka, the four-time major champion put on an impressive showing at Augusta this past weekend — a year after he failed to make the cut.
“I know if I’m healthy, I know I can compete,” he said.
Earlier this month, Koepka captured his second individual LIV Golf title in Orlando.
Koepka made the jump from the PGA Tour to the Saudi-backed league last summer.
