Roger Neal, the publicist for The Pointer Sisters, an R&B group, has confirmed that Anita Pointer, one of the group’s founding members, has passed away on New year’s eve (December 31, 2022) at the age of 74.

In their father’s Oakland, California, church, the four Pointer Sisters first started singing together more than 50 years ago. In 1969, Bonnie Pointer and her younger sister June made their debut as a pair in the world of professional singing. They eventually added the older sisters Anita and Ruth, and in 1973 they released their debut album as a group.

In the presence of her family, Pointer passed away on Saturday at her Los Angeles home, according to a statement provided to CNN by Neal.

The trio had 13 US Top 20 hits between 1973 and 1985, and they received three Grammy Awards in all.

According to the publicist, cancer was the death’s cause.
